National Informatics Centre Service Inc (NICSI), set up in 1995 as section 25 company of National Informatics Centre, under Department of Information Technology (DIT), Government of India has provided IT solutions in terms of Networking, Hardware & Software, Video Conferencing, System Studies, Business Process Re-engineering, Web site development, Training, etc. to the Ministries and Departments of Central and State Governments including the Union Territories and District Administration.

In tune with the Government of India’s resolve for appropriate development of the North Eastern region, DIT has conceived several ICT projects such as Capacity Building, Community Information Centre (CIC), State Wide Area Network (SWAN), State Data Centre (SDC), e-District, etc. With all these schemes in vogue, the perception is that North-East has not progressed in the IT field as much as other states in the country. Therefore to look into the Issues and Challenges facing the North Eastern States and to explore the possibilities in the IT and the e-Governance entitle “IT & e-Gov Conclave for North-East States” has been planned to be held in Shillong on the 8th and 9th of July 2009.
